Privacy policy

Last updated: April 2026

1. Introduction

At Steve tutors English ("we", "I", "us"), we are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This policy explains when and why we collect personal information, how we use it, the conditions under which we may disclose it to others, and how we keep it secure, in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

2. What data we collect

We may collect and process the following personal data about you and the student:

  • Identity data: Parent/guardian name, student name, and student's current school year.
  • Contact data: Email address, billing address, and telephone number.
  • Educational data: Academic goals, current grades, exam boards, and any relevant Special Educational Needs (SEN) information shared voluntarily to aid in tuition.
  • Transaction data: Details about payments to and from you, and details of services you have purchased. (Note: We do not store full credit card details on our servers).

3. How we use your data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To provide tutoring services and tailor educational plans.
  • To manage bookings, scheduling, and cancellations.
  • To process payments and maintain accounting records.
  • To communicate with you regarding student progress, session updates, or safeguarding concerns.

4. Third-party services

To provide a seamless service, we use trusted third-party applications to handle specific business functions. These platforms are fully GDPR compliant:

  • Cal.com: Used to manage availability and process your calendar bookings.
  • Vercel Analytics: Used to monitor general website traffic and performance. This is a privacy-focused service that does not use tracking cookies or collect personally identifiable information (PII).

5. How we use cookies

Our website only uses "strictly necessary" cookies required for the site to function properly (such as ensuring our booking system works securely).

We do not use non-essential tracking, marketing, or advertising cookies. Because we only use essential cookies, we do not require a cookie consent banner under UK law.

6. Data security and retention

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way.

We will only retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, or accounting requirements. Generally, student and contact records are deleted within one academic year after tutoring services have permanently ceased.

7. Your legal rights

Under data protection laws, you have rights including:

  • Your right of access: You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
  • Your right to rectification: You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Your right to erasure: You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
